Price Increases on Unlimited Plans
According to one of the AT&T support articles on the change, "most" retired consumer unlimited plans will receive an increase.
If you have a single line of service, the increase will be $10/month. If you have multiple lines on your account, the total increase will be $20/month. This is not per line - if you have more than one line of service, the increase will be a flat $20/month.
AT&T does not provide a full list of plans impacted by this increase, but we know that the following unlimited smartphone plans are included:
- Unlimited Plus
- Unlimited Plus Enhanced
- Unlimited &More
- Unlimited &More Premium
- Unlimited Value
- Unlimited Choice
- Unlimited Choice II
- Unlimited Choice Enhanced
- Unlimited (with TV)
But AT&T is also making another change to these plans - this one for the better - by adding more data to these plans. These legacy plans traditionally had very low network management thresholds of around 22GB and a small bucket of personal mobile hotspot data.
- Unlimited Plus, Plus Enhanced, Unlimited &More Premium, and AT&T Unlimited (with TV) plans will all now include 100GB of high-speed data priority data and 60GB of hotspot data.
- Unlimited Choice, Choice II, Choice Enhanced, Unlimited &More, and Unlimited Value plans will all now include 75GB of high-speed priority data and 30GB of hotspot data.
Other Price Increases
Additionally, other support articles cover similar price increases for legacy Family Talk and Nation plans and Mobile Share plans.
The Family Talk and Nation plans will receive an increase of either $5 or $10, depending on the current month's fee. Mobile Share data plans will also receive either a $5 or $10 increase, depending on the amount of data included in the plan.
Unlike the unlimited phone plans listed above that are getting extra data, it does not appear that AT&T is adding any extra benefits to these affected plans.
Other than the Mobile Share plans, there are no other data-only plans on the list of plans getting an increase, and it does not appear that any business plans are receiving increases at this time.

Conclusion
This is not the first time AT&T has raised prices on legacy plans, and it likely won't be the last. And they're not alone in doing so - Verizon and T-Mobile have both also made similar moves. While you can continue on your old plan if you choose to do so, the reality is that the carriers all want to you move onto their newer - and often more expensive - lineup of plan offerings.
If you are still on one of these impacted plans, you will need to determine if the additional cost makes the plan still worthwhile to hang onto.
Once the increases start to roll out, we will monitor other news sources to see if there are reports of any plans other than the ones listed above that are affected.
