Key Points:
- AT&T is raising prices on its retired Unlimited Elite smartphone plan by $5 per line.
- As compensation, AT&T is providing an additional 10GB of mobile hotspot data for 50GB total.
- The change will take effect in the next three billing cycles.
AT&T is doing another price increase on a legacy smartphone plan, this one on the Unlimited Elite plan.
Unlimited Elite was AT&T's flagship smartphone plan from November 2019 until it was retired in June 2022 and replaced with the Unlimited Premium plan. The plan originally cost $45-85/month per line, depending on the number of lines of service.
The price increase will be $5/month per line, but an additional 10GB of mobile hotspot data is included as compensation. This brings the total amount up to 50GB, which is 10GB less than the current flagship plan, Unlimited Premium PL.
AT&T's help article states that Unlimited Elite lines added to an account prior to February 1, 2024, will see the changes, but those added after that date won't. The help article doesn't explain why that date is significant or the reason that lines added after that date aren't affected.
Like most price increases, AT&T appears to want to incentivize switching to a current plan, and the help article suggests that. If this change affects you, check out our AT&T Postpaid entry for details on the current plans for comparison.
AT&T says the price increase will appear on bills within the next three billing cycles.
