AT&T introduced a new fixed wireless service for business customers called AT&T Internet Air for Business.
This new service is similar to AT&T's consumer fixed wireless Internet Air service but is intended for business use only at business addresses.
The service comes in two tiers:
- AT&T Internet Air Business Standard - $60/month for unlimited data. All data is deprioritized when the network is congested.
- AT&T Internet Air Business Premium - $100/month for unlimited data. Includes 250 GB of priority data before network deprioritization.
AT&T offers a $30/month discount when eligible business voice lines are on the same account.
While some fixed-wireless services can be used while mobile, like the consumer Internet Air, this new offering from AT&T is not compatible with mobile use. The service has the following terms and restrictions in the fine print:
- Signing up requires providing a qualified business (non-residential) service address within AT&T's coverage area that supports the service.
- The service can only be used at that qualified designated address.
- It requires using an AT&T-provided gateway router.
The fine print also says that:
Internet Air for Business is not intended for Consumer entertainment applications (i.e., “Netflix”), continuous video streaming (i.e., “security cameras”), web hosting, or public or guest Wi-Fi and may not be used in any manner prohibited under your Business Agreement.
However, it's not clear whether or how that is enforced.
Overall, it's nice to see more wireless services, but our audience of mobile users can skip this one unless they happen to have a bona fide fixed-location business.
Key Mobile Internet Related Considerations:
