Overview: Perle Cellular Routers and Gateways (Mobile Router)

Perle is a Canadian company that manufactures cellular routers, but that’s not its core business. It mainly focuses on high-end industrial and IoT networking products.

Perle has a few lines of cellular routers; however, most of them offer low-end cellular modems and tend to be specialized for industrial use cases. Here are two designed for mobile applications:

IRG5500 Series: Cat-12 Router
IRG7440 5G: 5G Gateway

Of these, the only model of interest to mobile users is the IRG7440 5G as the IRG5500 is outrageously priced for an LTE Cat-12 device.

Routers can serve as a central conductor of your local area network in your RV and boat. Mobile routers are different from residential routers in that they typically support multiple internet sources like cellular and Wi-Fi, can be powered off of 12v or AC and support external antenna for better receiving signal.
