Tired of mobile hotspots that discretely fit in your pocket?
How about one that you can tow behind your RV instead...
GM has announced a new service called "OnStar 4G LTE" - coming to most 2015 GM models. This system integrates an AT&T LTE modem into the cars infotainment system, creating a WiFi hotspot and enabling direct-to-dash internet for things like navigation search results, and Pandora radio streaming.
Thanks to a powerful roof mounted antenna and integration directly into the cars electronics, GM feels certain that the OnStar 4G LTE service should be able to outperform using a smartphone for the same tasks.
Current AT&T subscribers can add the OnStar hotspot to current Mobile Share plans for $10/mo, or there are monthly or pay-as-you-go plans available as well - for example offering 5GB for $50/mo, or 10GB that doesn't expire for 12 months for $200.
The car-related services, such as remote unlock or checking your tire pressure over the internet, do not count against your data plan.
I wonder how long it will be before RV manufacturers begin to offer something similar, bundling in mobile internet and a service plan right into new RVs.
