Late last year, Peplink came out with an all-new Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro router design with much more advanced hardware able to take advantage of gigabit-speed cellular connections. Peplink's first product on this new BR1 Pro platform was the Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5G, which included a 5G/LTE-Cat 20 modem.
Pepwave is now shipping another version of this high-end mobile powerhouse called the Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro Cat-20. This version has all the features of the MAX BR1 Pro 5G version - only without the 5G modem. Features highlights include:
- 1 Gbps Router Throughput - The new BR1 Pro design has much faster internals that can handle gigabit speed connections
- Cat-20 4G/LTE Radio - The Cat-20 4G/LTE radio supports peak theoretical performance of 2 Gbps down and 150 Mbs up, and it supports all the bands in use by the major carriers: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B13, B14, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B29, B30, B32, B34, B38, B39, B40, B41, B42, B46, B48, B66, and B71.
- Wi-Fi - The MAX BR1 Pro platform supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) for faster Wi-Fi connections.
The Cat-20 BR1 Pro is available for $1,199, which is $300 less than the 5G version.
Key Mobile Internet Related Considerations:
- MAX BR1 Pro Cat-20 uses the same new and upgraded hardware as the 5G version that came out last year - just with an LTE-only modem.
- The Cat-20 modem in the MAX BR1 Pro is at the pinnacle of 4G/LTE technology and will be relevant for years to come.
- This router could be an excellent, well-performing interim solution for those waiting for more capable 5G modems to come to routers, but who still need peak LTE cellular performance.
