Peplink Lowers Price of MAX Transit Duo Pro Router to $999 & Updates Name

Name Change and Price Drop

Today, Peplink is lowering the price of the Transit Pro by $200 from $1,199 - to $999. They're also rebranding it - as the MAX Transit Duo Pro.

The Transit Duo was a popular product until it was retired in late 2021, and while the Pro version released in March 2022 offers some nice upgrades, dropping "Duo" from the product name created some confusion in the market since the "Duo" name had long signified dual modems. Peplink is adding back in the name Duo to hopefully alleviate some of that confusion.

The price and name change go into effect on November 21, 2022.

Transit Pro History

The Peplink MAX Transit Pro was first introduced in March 2022. It features 1 Gbps router throughput, Wi-Fi 6, and a combination of dual Cat-7 and Cat-12 modems that balances carrier compatibility and performance. 

When introduced, it replaced the MAX Transit Duo, an older design with slower internals and dual Cat-12 modems. The MAX Transit Duo was long one of our Top Pick routers.

The MAX Transit Duo Pro is a worthy successor, especially now that it has the same $999 price as the original MAX Transit Duo.

The MAX Transit Pro (now MAX Transit Duo Pro) has been on our list of Top Pick routers since its introduction. 

The combination of Cat-7 and Cat-12 modems is a well-balanced approach to optimizing for carrier compatibility and performance. We also like the Wi-Fi 6 capability and 1 Gbps throughput. 

We do still wish, however, that it had a USB port and more Ethernet ports - particularly WAN ports - which would allow the addition of more connection options to provide additional flexibility and redundancy.

While not perfect, the router is still a great option and is a better value at $999.
