T-Mobile is notifying thousands of customers on retired smartphone plans that they can expect a $5 per-line price increase starting April 2, 2025.
T-Mobile has not published a comprehensive list of which plans and lines are affected but directs affected customers to this webpage.
Based on the reports we've collated, this affects some customers on legacy Magenta, ONE, and Simple Choice smartphone plans. We've not seen any evidence that prices are increasing on data-only lines or any of the Go5G plans.
This change also does not appear to affect customers who saw price increases over the last year, including a large number of customers on the same plans who got increases in May 2024.
Note that this is a $5 price increase per line on an account, but it doesn't affect any free lines. So, accounts with many voice lines can see a significant increase in their monthly bill.
T-Mobile has signaled for months its desire to transition customers to newer plans and increase revenue. Perhaps not coincidentally, this price increase takes effect the day after the 5-year agreement not to raise prices as part of the Sprint merger ends.
Affected customers have a few options:
- Port out to another carrier. Customers with a price lock guarantee on their account may get the last month of service for free.
- Keep the plan at the higher cost.
- Switch to one of T-Mobile's Go5G plans.
