T-Mobile just released a new mobile hotspot device - the Franklin T9. This new hotspot replaces the Coolpad Surf, which is no longer available for purchase from T-Mobile.
The Coolpad Surf remains available from some MVNO's and resellers, for free as part of T-Mobile's ongoing Test Drive program (free service for 30-days). And the Sprint version of the CoolPad remains available.
The T-9 is an unremarkable hotspot with a simple LTE category 4 modem and support for all current T-Mobile and Sprint LTE bands.
A major downside to this hotspot is the lack of any external antenna ports, which limits the signal enhancing options for this device to cellular boosters only.
While Verizon, AT&T and Sprint all offer full-featured flagship-level mobile hotspots, T-Mobile, unfortunately, continues to only offer simple, no-frills options like the T-9.
The T-9 is available now from T-Mobile for $84.
