Last week, we reported that Verizon was raising prices on its most recently retired consumer smartphone plans by $4 per line per month.
The affected plans are the 5G Do More, 5G Get More, 5G Play More, and 5G Start plans. Announcements, as expected, went out today, but included a surprise - affected lines will also get an additional 5GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data per line, above the standard allotment for the plan. This brings the total mobile hotspot data for each to:
- 5G Get More: 55GB
- 5G Do More/Play More: 30GB
- 5G Start: 10GB
Verizon had previously confirmed the price increases but did not mention any mobile hotspot increases.
This additional mobile hotspot data might cushion the blow from this unexpected price increase for our audience of nomads, RVers, and boaters who value mobile hotspot data.
Several business smartphone plans also saw price increases this month, and notifications for those have already gone out. At press time, there is no indication that the business plans received any increase in their high-speed mobile hotspot allotments.
Key Mobile Internet Related Considerations:
- Verizon is including extra mobile hotspot data in plans affected by its previously announced consumer smartphone $4/line price increase.
- Customers will now get an extra 5GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data on the 5G Get More, Play More, Do More and Start plans.
